FIREBALLS
PSYCHOTIC MUSIC FOR NEUROTIC PEOPLE
TOUR 2011
Fireballs have long been one of the fastest and most furious outfits ever to terrorise Australian audiences. Now with a revitalized lineup, a new album and a backlog of manic energy, Fireballs are taking their psychobilly-metal-rock’n'roll mayhem on the road for the national Psychotic Music for Neurotic People tour.
Breaking out from the retro centric Melbourne rockabilly scene, Fireballs blazed a trail with their incendiary brand of hard ‘n’ fast psychobilly, combining a reckless and relentless live show with a brutal meshing of speed rock, punk, metal that grew like a weed around their rockabilly roots. One of Australian music’s true and uncompromising originals, The Fireballs gave youngsters The Living End their first gig, taught Silverchair how to smash up their gear, supported rock super heavyweights Motorhead, Motley Crue and KISS as well as Oz rock legends such as The Divinyls and Midnight Oil, arrogantly demolished the national festival circuit, and bamboozled huge crowds at the neo-traditionalist psychobilly festivals of Europe and Japan.
The latest Fireballs album Hellrider, released on their own label XXX Fireballs Records, draws a line in the sand and marks a new era for the band after a lineup change and a break from regular touring — not counting several frenetic, sold-out special events which are forever branded onto the memories of Fireballs fans.
Inspired by the extremities of Norwegian black metal, late night Ouija board summoning of George Jones and Buck Owens and the speed barrier-breaking madness of Japanese psychobilly, Hellrider documents Fireballs at their uncompromising best and captures the visceral reality of the punch to the family jewels delivered by a Fireballs live show.
“It’s like we’re a new band now,” says Eddie Fury, stand-up drummer and Fireballs frontman. “We’ve got extra horsepower (the new, hi-rocktane lineup features the duelling guitars of Dylan Villain and Pete Speed) and we’re fuelled up, cranked up and ready to burn. We’re a nitrous shot to the brink of sanity, baby!”
